Keeping facilities clean and organized is the key to enhancing the workflow of industrial sites to optimal efficiency. Poor facility care can lead to injuries, infections and even exposure to toxic chemicals. OSHA requires employers to “keep floors in work areas in a clean, and, so far as possible, a dry condition.” Many manufacturers, processors and other organizations recognize the relevance of hazardous area safety and the effects it has on financial performance by mitigating accident related costs and maintain a positive corporate image.

The use of hoppers in industrial maintenance & plant operations is one way that businesses can avoid putting themselves into problematic situations. Designed for the handling and transport of waste and bulk materials, hoppers are box shaped containers with an open top for the dumping of its contents. They are typically made from steel to endure the wear and tear of frequent use in industrial applications.

Types of Hoppers

Automated Dumping Hopper

Self Dumping Steel Hopper

Many facilities require the use of specialized hoppers in order to meet their waste management needs. Self dumping hoppers are equipped with a cushioned rubber bump stop that triggers unit to dump its load when it comes into contact with the basket. These are constructed with high quality steel and robotically welded to prevent leaks. . Manufactured with a low-profile design, industrial part hoppers are made to be placed below heavy machinery to serve as a catch basin for loose parts. This reduces the danger and inconvenience of collecting the parts from the floor. Its tapered sides lend themselves to quick unloading of waste, chips and other scrap material.

When you want to maximize the existing space in your facility, stackable hoppers have formed bases that allow the units to be joined on top of each other while still being able to hold a capacity that ranges from 2,000 to 6,000 pounds. A beveled cross channel makes it so forklifts can smoothly grab and move the unit. Another option for areas with restrictive space requirements, a chute or dumping hopper is fitted with a full-height front door that opens to quickly dispose of hopper contents. A release cable can be attached to this door so that it can be operated at a safe distance. Polyethylene hopper lids can be attached to keep contents out of view and for a cleaner workstation appearance. Lightweight and ribbed for strength, these lids also feature a crown for water drainage.

Industrial Hoppers

Portable industrial hoppers feature two rigid poly-on-steel wheels and two swivel rubber wheels attached to the unit for easy handling of materials in plants, warehouses, distribution centers and other sizable, open air facilities. BP-HOP units are dumped with a fork truck and tilt with operator assistance, making it easily operable by one person and an ergonomic solution to reduce worker fatigue. An optional power traction drive can provide the unit with an auto reverse, 240 degree turning radius and a handle throttle grip. Industrial hoppers are an essential part of maintaining facility cleanliness and safety that benefits the overall picture of any company.
